Terms of Service

Last updated: October 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of this website and the products and tools offered through it, including the free case assessment and the paid Demand Letter Companion (collectively, the "Services"). The Services are operated by Empowerment Media, LLC ("we," "us," or "our"), a Maine limited liability company. By using the Services, you agree to these Terms.

1. Not legal advice

The Services provide general legal information and document-preparation support only. They do not constitute legal advice, do not create an attorney–client relationship, and are not a substitute for advice from a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction. We are not a law firm and are not your attorney. Laws vary by state and locality and change over time. You are solely responsible for deciding whether and how to pursue any claim.

2. No guarantee of results

We do not guarantee that you will recover your security deposit, obtain a judgment, win any case, or collect any money. Outcomes depend on the facts, evidence, applicable law, the court, and the conduct of other parties — all of which are outside our control.

3. The free case assessment

The free case assessment is an informational tool that uses artificial intelligence to provide a general, non-binding preliminary assessment of a security deposit situation based on the answers you provide and publicly available information. Its output may contain errors or omissions and should not be relied upon as a definitive legal evaluation. See our Privacy Policy for how information you enter is processed.

4. The Demand Letter Companion

The Demand Letter Companion is a paid web application for one residential security-deposit case. It reads documents you upload, asks questions, applies built-in state deposit rules and other publicly available legal information, and prepares a draft demand letter. It provides legal information and document-preparation support. It does not provide legal advice or legal representation.

Purchase. The price is shown at checkout and is paid once, for one case. Payments are processed by Stripe. Refunds are available only as described in our Refund Policy.

Your private case link. Your case is opened with a private link instead of an account. You are responsible for keeping it safe; anyone with the complete link can open your case. You can request a new link from the email address used at checkout.

Your responsibilities. You agree to provide accurate information and to review every fact the application shows you. You choose which charges to dispute, what amount to ask for, and whether to send the letter. You are the author of your letter: you approve its final text and decide whether and how to send it.

Storage and deletion. Your case is stored as described in our Privacy Policy and is deleted after 180 days without activity, or sooner if you delete it. Download anything you want to keep, such as your letter, before then.

Scope. The Demand Letter Companion covers the demand-letter stage of a residential security-deposit dispute that can be handled in small claims court. It may stop when a case falls outside that scope. Court filing, service, hearing preparation, and collection are not included. Any future product covering those steps will be offered separately.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Services, including by attempting to disrupt them, accessing them through automated means except as permitted, or using them for any unlawful purpose.

6. Intellectual property

The content, design, and materials of the Services are owned by Empowerment Media, LLC or its licensors and are protected by applicable law. You may not reproduce or redistribute them except as expressly permitted.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Empowerment Media, LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising out of or related to your use of the Services. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Services will not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, for the product giving rise to the claim.

8. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maine, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
