Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Empowerment Media, LLC ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with this website, the free case assessment, the paid Demand Letter Companion, and related Services.

The short version

• Your case is stored privately and opens only with your private case link.
• Your case and uploaded files are deleted automatically 180 days after your last activity, and you can delete them yourself at any time.
• We use your email for your case link and messages about your case. We don’t send marketing email without your permission.
• We don’t sell your information or use it for advertising.

Information you provide

Free case assessment

When you use the free case assessment, you enter information about your rental situation, such as your state and city, move-out date, deposit amount, and the landlord’s deductions. You don’t have to give your name, and we ask that you not enter more personal detail than necessary.

Demand Letter Companion

When you use the paid Demand Letter Companion, you provide information needed to prepare your demand letter, which may include:

• your full name, given when you accept the terms;
• your lease and any other files you upload;
• facts taken from your lease and from your answers, such as the rental address, dates, amounts, the landlord’s name and address, co-tenants, and the deductions you dispute;
• your current mailing address;
• the letter that is generated, and the dates you approve and mail it.

Purchases

Payments are processed by Stripe. We receive your email address, the amount paid, and an order reference. We never see or store your full card number.

How we use it

We use your information to run your case: reading your lease, applying your state’s rules, preparing your letter, and keeping your case saved so you can return to it. We also use it to email your private case link and messages about your case, to process refunds, to answer you when you contact us, and to prevent abuse.

How AI is used

The free assessment uses an AI service from Anthropic. The Demand Letter Companion uses an AI service from OpenAI. The information and files needed for each step are sent to that provider to generate a response, for example to read your lease or draft your letter. Some steps also look up publicly available legal information on the web. Each provider handles that data under its own terms for business customers. We don’t use your case to identify you outside the Services.

Your private case link

Your case has no username or password. It opens only with its complete private link, which is shown to you and emailed to you. We store only a scrambled form of the key in that link, so we can’t see or re-send your existing link. If you lose it, the "Get your case link again" page emails you a new one, and the old link stops working. Anyone who has your complete link can open your case, so don’t share it.

On your own device, the case page remembers your case in your browser’s storage so you can resume it. Clearing your browser data or deleting the case removes this.

How long we keep it

• Your case and uploaded files: deleted automatically 180 days after your last activity in the case, or right away if you choose “Delete my case permanently”.
• Your email address and our record of your order: deleted along with your case.
• Payment records: kept by Stripe as required for payments, taxes, and fraud prevention, under Stripe’s policies.
• Email delivery records: kept for a limited time by our email provider under its policies.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting and security providers may automatically collect limited technical information, such as IP address and basic request data, for security, abuse prevention, and rate limiting. This is standard operational data, not used to build a personal profile of you.

Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand how the site is used as a whole — for example, which pages are visited, which sites visitors arrive from, and how many people check their deadline, start the free assessment, or click through to checkout. Plausible does not use cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not store your IP address. We see this information only as aggregate statistics. Plausible processes this data in the European Union.

We don’t send what you type into the assessment or your case to our analytics provider.

Service providers

We rely on these providers to operate the Services. Each handles data under its own privacy terms:

• Netlify (website and app hosting, and case storage)
• Cloudflare (domain, security, bot protection, and email forwarding)
• Stripe (payments)
• Resend (sending your case-link emails)
• Anthropic and OpenAI (AI processing, as described above)
• Plausible (privacy-focused analytics)

Cookies

The site uses minimal cookies or similar technologies as needed for basic functionality, security, and payment processing. Our analytics service does not use cookies. We do not use the site to serve advertising.

Children

The Services are intended for adults and are not directed to children.

Your choices

You can delete your case at any time from the case page. You can also ask us to delete information associated with your email address, or ask what we hold, by writing to the address below from that email.

Changes

We may update this Policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
