Win-or-Refund Policy

Get My Security Deposit Back

This product comes with a win-or-refund guarantee. If you complete the full case process described in the guide and the court does not enter judgment in your favor, you are entitled to a full refund. This page explains what that means in practice — what qualifies, what documentation is needed, and how to request a refund.

What qualifies for a refund

A refund is honored when you have completed all four of the following steps and the court did not enter judgment in your favor:

  • You sent a demand letter to the landlord by certified mail with return receipt requested, as described in Section 4 of the main guide.
  • You filed a small claims lawsuit in the appropriate court, as described in Section 5 of the main guide.
  • You served the defendant with the lawsuit papers through a legally valid method in your state (certified mail, sheriff, or licensed process server).
  • The case reached a hearing (or a default judgment review), and the court did not enter judgment in your favor.

What does not qualify

The guarantee is specifically tied to the legal outcome the product is designed to produce: a court judgment. The following situations do not qualify:

You won by settlement

If the landlord paid you in full, or you accepted a settlement offer before or during the case, the guarantee does not apply — because the case did not require a court judgment to succeed.

You abandoned the case partway through

If you stopped before completing all four steps above, the guarantee does not apply, because the full process was not used.

The case fell outside small claims jurisdiction

The product is designed for small claims court only. If your case required civil district court or another venue, the guarantee does not apply.

The landlord did not pay the judgment

The guarantee covers obtaining a judgment, not collecting it. Whether the landlord actually pays depends on their behavior and assets, which are outside any guide's control. The guide teaches the enforcement tools available to you after winning.

Time window

Refund requests must be submitted within 12 months of the date of purchase. Most security deposit cases resolve in 30 to 90 days, but some take longer due to court delays, service issues, or post-judgment proceedings. The 12-month window is intended to accommodate the full range of possible case timelines.

How to request a refund

To request a refund, email help@landlordkeptmydeposit.com with the following:

The four documents

Photos, scans, or screenshots are fine.

  • The certified mail receipt for your demand letter, showing the tracking number.
  • The file-stamped complaint or filing receipt showing your case number.
  • The proof of service — the signed green return receipt card, the sheriff's return of service, or the process server's affidavit.
  • The court document showing the case reached a hearing and that judgment was not entered in your favor — typically a judgment order, dismissal order, or court calendar showing the hearing took place.

Your purchase information

The email address you used to buy the guide, and the approximate date of purchase. This helps us locate your order quickly.

A brief note about what happened (optional but helpful)

One or two sentences explaining the outcome — what the judge said, why the case did not result in judgment for you. This is not required, but it helps us improve the product for future buyers.

Refunds are typically processed within 5 business days of receiving complete documentation. You will receive an email confirmation when the refund is issued, and the refund itself will appear on your original payment method within 5–10 business days after that, depending on your bank.

Questions before you purchase

If you have questions about whether the guarantee applies to your situation, or anything else about the product before purchasing, email help@landlordkeptmydeposit.com. Genuine pre-purchase questions are welcome.
